CEC Staff Biographies

Shannon Asbury, MA, MFT, AT
Resiliency Consultant
Shannon is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Art Therapist with over 7 years experience working within school systems throughout the Bay Area, providing support to students, faculty, staff and administration. Having worked in both for profit and not for profit organizations, Shannon chose to return to school and earn a duel Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA. After working primarily with at-risk and underprivileged youth, Shannon joined the CEC staff in 2007. She is currently a Resiliency Consultant, supporting two of our schools and is working with the New Teachers Center as a Meta Coach. In addition, she brings experiences gained in her earlier career to support the center in various ways, including Database Manager, Development Associate, Workshop Creator and Presenter as well as the Resource Librarian.
Graciela Borsato, Ph.D.
Graciela received her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Buenos Aires, her M.A. in Psychology at San Jose State University and her Ph.D. in Child and Adolescent Development at Stanford University. In addition to her position as Evaluation and Research consultant at The Cleo Eulau Center, Dr. Borsato holds a research position at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Dr. Borsato has a special interest in education and student resilience. She is fully fluent and literate in English and Spanish, which provides CEC with a greater capacity for utilizing and developing culturally appropriate evaluation instruments. We are fortunate to have someone with Dr. Borsato’s qualifications and passion for our mission as our evaluator.
Terese Brennan-Marquez, LCSW
Resiliency Consultation Program Advisor and Consultant
Terese Brennan-Marquez received her B.S. from UC Berkeley and her M.S.W. from San Francisco State University. She has over ten years of experience in school social work, primarily in schools with high-risk populations. She worked as a school social worker at Belle Haven School in East Palo Alto and at Hoover and Taft Schools in Redwood City. Before becoming the Program Director at CEC, she worked as a Resiliency Consultant for two years at Selby Lane School in Redwood City. In addition to her work with CEC, Terese has a private practice in Palo Alto providing clinical services to children, adults and families.

Judith Gable, LCSW
Collaborative Counseling Program Director
Judith Gable received her BA from Raymond College (University of the Pacific) in 1977. She then attended Smith College School for Social Work, where she earned the degree of MSW in 1980 and LCSW in 1983. Her work experiences have been varied, including direct clinical work in community mental health, psychiatric and medical inpatient and outpatient settings. At the Cleo Eulau Center, Judith has been Program Director of the Court and Community Schools Collaborative Counseling Program since 1996, and was a resiliency consultant and acting Program Director for the Resiliency Consultation Program in the past. Additionally, Judith has a private practice in Mountain View, California and facilitates medical and support groups at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
Lyra Ghose
Executive Director
Lyra Ghose has over 15 years of nonprofit management experience both in the United States and internationally. With a B.A. from UC Berkeley in Anthropology, Lyra has a strong Interest in and passion for learning about many different cultures. She got her start in Pakistan working for Save the Children and the International Rescue Committee. She spent seven years in Cleveland, Ohio, managing a nationally recognized student exchange organization called Adventures In Real Communication. As part of her work she traveled throughout the country and internationally, conducting workshops and trainings for potential students, families and school sites. Prior to joining the Cleo Eulau Center, Lyra worked as the Development Officer for Family Connections, a cooperative preschool program serving over 100 low-income families in the Ravenswood and Redwood City School Districts. Lyra has been with the Cleo Eulau Center since the fall of 2004 and has been in the role of Executive Director since February, 2006.
Jean Hamilton, MFT
Resiliency Consultant and Community Liaison
Jean received a B.S. in American Literature from DePauw University in Greencastle Indiana, a M.A. from San Francisco State in Special Education, and a M. S. with a Special Major in Dance/ Movement Therapy and Clinical Counseling from Cal. State University, East Bay. She has been licensed for over twenty years as a Marriage and Family Therapist, has worked as a clinician at Family Service of the Mid-Peninsula, Miramonte Mental Health, and for Santa Clara County Mental Health. She has a private practice in Palo Alto where she sees adults, some children and adolescents and families. She has been a Resiliency Consultant for eight years at Kennedy Middle School in Redwood City; was a Resiliency Consultant at Edison-McNair in East Palo Alto, and currently serves on the East Palo Alto Mental Health Advisory Board. As the Community Liaison, she serves on the Redwood City 2020 Community Youth Development Initiative’s Steering Committee, is a member of the EPA College Access Network, and participates in the PAMF’ HEARD, which is a community health care alliance for response to adolescent depression.

Lisa Medoff
Resiliency Program Consultant
Lisa holds a B.A in psychology from Rice University, an M.S.Ed. in school counseling from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in child and adolescent development, with an emphasis on mental health for adolescents with special needs, from Stanford University. She works with as a resiliency consultant for Hawes Elementary School in Redwood City, as well as serving as a meta-coach for mentor teachers with the Social and Emotional Well-Being project through CEC’s partnership with the New Teacher Center. In addition to her job with the CEC, Lisa works with students who have learning disabilities and emotional disorders, consulting with families and schools to help them provide the optimal home and school environments for their children with special needs. Lisa has taught child & adolescent development and psychology courses to both undergraduates and teacher credential candidates at Stanford University, Santa Clara University, San Jose State University, and Foothill College. Lisa is the author of a weekly child psychology column for the website Education.com. Her books include the Stressed Out Students Guide To… series and Resilience in the Classroom: Helping Students With Special Needs.
Julie Norton, M.A.
Director of the Resiliency Consultation Program
Julie earned MA from University of San Francisco in Counseling Psychology and has a BS in Communications. She joins CEC after a career in civic involvement as the Community Affairs Supervisor for Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District, and Director of Outreach and Marketing for V-O-Cal, as well as a Marketing and Product Management at Intuit. Her responsibilities at CEC include the program development and management of the Resiliency Consultation Program. Julie is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and her counseling experience includes work as an elementary and middle school counselor for Community Health Awareness Council, and as counselor providing support for teens, and adults suffering from complicated grief due to pre-existing psychosocial conditions, services at Kara. She is passionate about the capacity for human resiliency and brings a unique constellation of professional experience which benefits our agency.
Anastasia Park, Ph.D.
Resiliency Program Consultant
Anastasia is a licensed clinical psychologist who works primarily with children and adolescents. Before joining CEC as a consultant at Selby Lane Elementary school, she had worked within four different school districts throughout the bay area as well as at non-profit mental health agencies. Outside of CEC, she is a part time clinician at Columbia Middle School, an adjunct faculty at UOP, and has private practice in San Jose and Palo Alto. Anastasia received MA in counseling psychology from USF, and Ph.D. in psychology from Saybrook University in San Francisco.
Heather Sorensen
Resiliency Consultation Program Advisor
Heather Sorensen is a licensed Clinical Social Worker whose practice has focused on children, teens and adults since 1995. Heather served as a CEC school consultant at Selby Lane School in Redwood City and currently is the Co-Director of the CEC Resiliency Consultation Program. She earned her MSW from Boston University and BS in Psychology from Brigham Young University. Heather is certified as a mediator and parent educator with training in psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy and Bowen Family Systems Theory. Her professional experience includes work as a school consultant, social worker, clinician and therapeutic teacher. Heather currently has a private practice in Palo Alto specializing in individual psychotherapy with adolescents and young adults.
Beth Walton, MFT
Clinical Supervisor Collaborative Counseling Program
Beth Walton is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 16 years of experience working with youth. She holds a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from San Francisco State and a B.A. in Psychology from University of California, Berkeley. Beth has extensive experience working with at-risk youth and has held positions as therapist, clinical social worker, group care counselor, and research assistant. She is currently the Clinical Supervisor for the Collaborative Counseling Program.
Tracy White
Development Director
Tracy recently joined the staff of the Cleo Eulau Center and brings with her 8 years of fundraising experience. Tracy earned her Bachelor of General Studies from Louisiana State University with an emphasis in Advertising, English and Sociology. Tracy’s experience includes a position as Membership Manager, Development Associate/Grant Writer, and Interim Development Director for Achieve Kids where she managed and undertook all functions of the department. Tracy has additional experience as a Freelance Writer/Designer and other Marketing positions.
