Our CCP Interns

Each year we recruit approximately 10-13 graduate student interns from the Wright Institute and other graduate schools of psychology and social work. We introduce them to the theories of resiliency and provide ongoing training and supervision in psychodynamic and systems theory. Our interns, in turn, provide  confidential counseling, directly on campus, to students attending the Court and Community Schools.   For many of these students, CEC provides the only counseling intervention available and is a critical component to their overall success. By respectfully engaging with these teens and providing high quality therapy in a safe setting, they learn to care for and respect themselves and others, creating a safer community for everyone. We hope our outreach will result in one less child in jail, one less child living on the streets, and one less child in an unsafe gang environment—ultimately ending the cycle of poverty and violence in our community. We strive to develop, in these students, a sense of hope and new beginnings, where they once saw a world with few possibilities.
