Teacher Support
Teaching is a very demanding profession and many teachers, especially those in middle schools, are not prepared for the challenges they will face. In fact, 50% of all certified public school teachers permanently leave the teaching profession before the end of their fifth year of teaching.1 This burn-out is partially a result of teachers with little or no training on the difficult emotional and social issues of their students. Without the tools to deal with these challenges, teacher frustrations often surpass their motivation, leading to overwhelmed teachers and students left behind.
The foundation of our work is to first develop a relationship with teachers, providing the necessary support and strategies to help them recognize their strengths and increase their understanding of students’ social and emotional wellness. Teachers then use these new skills and techniques to build relationships with their students, ultimately increasing student well-being, resilience, and success. CEC is one of the only agencies regionally to provide social & emotional wellness services directly to educators on school sites, and in the classroom, creating school-wide policies that promote student engagement and well-being.
