How Do Resilience Consultants Specifically Work With Teachers?
Through the teacher-consultant relationship, teachers are provided with information, resources, awareness, specific strategies and methods of self-care.
- Information: Teachers learn about the social and emotional issues adolescents’ face, and their impact on the students’ lives and ability to learn.
- Resources: Teachers discover the array of resources available for students and their families, which help both students and teachers focus on education in the classroom.
- Awareness: Consultants share with teachers what is going on in an individual student’s life that may be affecting their behavior in the classroom and their ability to learn.
- Specific Strategies: Consultants share specific ways to approach their students, whether addressing disruptive behavior or a lack of engagement. The strategies are strength-based, meaning they focus on the students’ talents and strengths and ways to empower students.
- Methods of Self-Care: Teachers are coached in rejuvenation strategies, ways to seek support and to collaborate within the school environment.
- Systemic Change: CEC currently works with school districts to look at “whole child practices”. For example, CEC is a partner with our Redwood City schools in the training of all school staff on the issues of equity and diversity.
